THE
MINI SOTA STORY

Mini Sota Agricultural Children’s Museum began as an idea in November 2022, shared by more than 40 local parents who wanted a space for children to learn, play, and celebrate agriculture. By January 2023, a Board of Directors and committees were formed to guide fundraising, grant writing, and planning. With the support of the Robert Sonsteng Foundation as a fiscal sponsor, a 501(c)(3) application, and strategic partnerships with local contractors , Mini Sota’s vision started becoming reality. A website, social media presence, local news features, and a monthly newsletter helped spread the word throughout the community.
In 2023, Mini Sota became a visible part of local life—participating in celebrations like Sunburg’s Syttende Mai and Benson’s Kid Day, hosting Music in the Park with Swingin’ Country, and launching creative fundraisers like our envelope campaign. These events, alongside merchandise sales and partnerships with local organizations, strengthened community support and excitement. Our main street building was purchased in April 2024, marking the next milestone in our journey.
Today, Mini Sota is a welcoming destination where children, families, and caregivers can explore, play, and connect. Our museum celebrates Western Minnesota’s agricultural heritage while fostering curiosity, intergenerational relationships, and community pride. It is a space to inspire, educate, and create lasting memories, ensuring the stories and spirit of our region continue for generations to come.
Mission
We envision Mini Sota as an inviting environment where play, discovery, and social interaction thrive, serving as a bridge across generations while preserving our cherished agricultural legacy.
To cultivate a space where all ages can explore agriculture through interactive exhibits, bridging heritage with innovation and fostering societal growth.
